In science:

We got word from the journal today that my paper was accepted! This was the paper that encompasses most of my thesis work (6 years) plus the time it took to alter the paper per journal reviewer requests when we submitted it the first time (6 months). YAY! I'm so happy that we don't have to do yet more experiments - the topoisomerase assays are a real pain in the ass and I'm the only one in the lab that does them regularly.


On the housing front:

We've had two people look at the condo a few weeks ago, one of whom is now thinking about a house instead and the other is talking finances with his parents. A med student came through tonight with her parents and another is coming tomorrow morning. It's nice to have these two visits spaced so close together so we only have to clean the place once. A fifth person from Stanford has also shown interest - the bf is actually talking to him on the phone as I type. So that front is promising!

We spent last weekend looking at homes and we plan on going to open houses and touring with an agent this weekend too. We've seen about 2 dozen homes. So far we've found one great home that has EVERYTHING we want...except it appears to be the most expensive one in the neighborhood. And I've been told that it's far better to buy a cheaper house in an expensive neighborhood than an expensive home in a cheaper one. So that house looks to be out. Hopefully we'll find something great this weekend!


We're going to go out and celebrate right now and then...BSG YAY! :)

Hi all, I got back from San Diego last night. Damn hard to go from sunny and 70s to snowing and 10s. Hell, the high this Saturday is supposed to be -5 F. The high. Ack.

Anyway, we have 3K photos to sort through from La Jolla and the zoo and the wild animal park, but I'll certainly be posting them over the next few days!

And...I GOT THE FELLOWSHIP OMG! The director called me Friday right before I left, so that was a wonderful treat before starting the trip. How exciting! Now it looks like I'll stay as a postdoc until May or June, take a month or so off, and then start the fellowship in July. Plus: pay raise! YAY!!!!

HAPPY NEW YEAR, EVERYONE! So far the new year has brought me...a 3 AM fire alarm in our condo building. So we plopped out of bed and put a sleepy-eyed and undoubtedly confused Kiwi in his travel cage in case we had to evacuate. 5 minutes later and the alarm was off, no explanation given. We put the poor bird back in his cage and resumed sleeping. Ah well.

And I'd also like to say THANK YOU to the anonymous person who gave me a year paid account and TONS of userpic space. What a wonderful surprise! Even more incentive for me to keep on posting pics, recipes, and ramblings. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! *hugs*

We've finally made a decision regarding HD format, HD-DVD vs. Blu-Ray, as the bf got me a HD-DVD player for Christmas. How do I know this? Well, the shipping company left it in its original box when they mailed it here, so I saw it when I came home for lunch. Oops. The bf is somewhat peeved over the early surprise, but I'm delighted.

Funny too, after seeing the player I proclaimed "Yay! Now we have to go out and buy the Planet Earth series on HD!" And the bf smiled (A McKay smug smile no less!) and pulled out that exact series from another box. I love that man. ^_^


I admit, I'm getting a teensy bit of enjoyment out of the fact that Joe M's blog is having a technical meltdown. Mwahahaha. ;)

I got an interview with the fellowship! And they're only interviewing 5 people for 2 spots! Oh so HAPPY!

And to think that only yesterday I was biting my nails and fretting that they'd never get back to me. Or that I'd get one of those "thanks but no thanks" emails again!
