Shiny happy people

May 14th, 2008 (09:18 am)

After being confronted by not one but two mods on GW, I've realized that I cannot even insinuate on that forum that there may be conflict between the SGA PTB and one or more actors. Even though Torri stated that she kept on going to the writers asking for more, they waved her away, and later that season they told her she could drop to recurring or leave. Even though JF has made numerous comments at cons about how TPTB no longer do script read-throughs, that his ideas often get rebutted into oblivion, etc etc. Nope, zip it at GW. You aren't allowed to infer that conflicts have occurred or are still occurring. The only assumptions that are apparently allowed are that everything is peachy keen in real life, people are never dumped or otherwise insulted because they don't get along with the people in charge, everyone loves everyone. If you think otherwise, you have to keep your damn mouth shut. Got it. Pass the kool-aid, eh?

And I love how people indirectly slam comments by gushing over their rebuttals. Simpering, "oh, your post was GREAT! So full of LOGIC and COMMON SENSE!" or "Finally, a post with some SANITY!" Bunch of cowards.

Idiots

March 15th, 2008 (02:31 pm)

Note to self: Do not bother trying to argue with idiots on GW who think that evolution is a bunch of lies propagated by indoctrination by those who "worship" Darwin while simultaneously arguing that creationism is somehow scientific.

Additional note to self: Do not bother trying to argue with idiots on GW who do not think what Lucius did to his wives (and would have potentially done to Weir and/or Teyla) was rape. Apparently the wives and the team still had free will, see, because they weren't running around like a bunch of zombies. Therefore, since they weren't zombies they were obviously making choices and what Lucius did to them was not rape. Yes, his wives deep down chose to marry him, Weir deep down was ready to marry him, Rodney chose to love him after being tortured by him, and Ronon thought he was the cat's meow even though Ronon never trusted outsiders. Wow. Also, I find it interesting that the loudest group of people defending Lucius are teenage boys. Scary.

Further note to self: Do not bother arguing with idiots on GW who are so blinded by their love for the show and TPTB that they have to question your every critique or come riding to the rescue of Joe M every time someone says something bad or even can be construed as bad about him. To those people TPTB can do no wrong and Joe M shits gold, therefore any problems found in the show or with Joe M's poor behavior toward fans are all the viewer's fault. Seriously, some people even posted that if you get upset with how Joe M insults certain fans then it must be because deep down you did something to deserve such insults, not because you have a problem with the EXECUTIVE PRODUCER of a TV show generally acting like a shit. Wow.

Final note to self: Do not bother trying to argue with idiots on GW who think that 1) people should not voice their criticisms with an ep or a season but instead should turn off the TV and shut the hell up or that 2) people are stupid for giving up on the show after s4 because s5 hasn't aired yet and HOW CAN YOU KNOW IT'S GOING TO BE BAD, OMG? In other words, critiquing the show and deciding to still watch it is bad, critiquing the show and deciding not to watch it is bad, praise of any sort no matter how speculative is good. Sigh.

Lots of idiots on GW recently. Maybe I need to slap more people on ignore and go read a nice book instead.

I'm a walking wreck, my friends.

Last week I had stomach flu. Fortunately it only lasted a day, but it took me about a week for my stomach and appetite to get completely back to normal.

On Monday I had another migraine to end all migraines. Throbbing head, nausea, simply agony. Blech.

And now it appears that I've injured my rotator cuff on my shoulder, since it hurts for me to lift up my right hand as if answering a question. No idea how I injured myself. So much for doing an upper body workout with weights this week! Taping up the condo doors for painting is also out of the question.

In better news, last Sunday was the series finale of The Wire, quite possibly one of the best cop and criminal dramas, if not shows period, on TV right now. Great finale too - now I want to go watch all of the five seasons over again.

And last Friday was the finale for Atlantis! I thought some parts were nice, others were merely "meh", and some made me shriek with fear (Woolsey! Aaaaahhh!). I think this season had a few great moments but overall I thought a lot of the eps were blah (especially the run from Quarantine through Trio). And at this point I've lost interest in most of the characters, even Rodney and Teyla. I'm not sure if I'm going to watch next season.

And the weather! Last weekend was the DST change so now it gets dark an hour later. Plus the temps are in the 30s and 40s and all the snow is melting. I even got the car washed - the poor thing hadn't been washed since November and was plastered with mud and salt. You can tell that it's blue again! :)

Short Kindred 2 review and Last Man teaser talk!

March 1st, 2008 (07:13 pm)

It's March! I CAN HAS NEW BSG NOW PLZ? Seriously, I'm dying here.

Watched "Kindred 2" last night. Without spoiling things too much, I'll say that I enjoyed his return quite a bit (a little OTT at the end though). I was sad when Rodney mentioning Elizabeth. And overall I think Teyla's "arc" this season has sucked. Where did the fierce, kickass woman go? Blech.

Next week's "Last Man" looks to have lots of CGIed explosions and...well an "emotional" moment that I won't spoil as it might trigger my gag reflex. It may come up in the comments, so beware!

New info on Tapping in s5 and interview with Torri

GW is up...only you can't post. Still, one interesting announcement was posted before GW hit the skids again:

"Sci Fi's "Stargate Atlantis" is in a similar position and will begin filming its fifth season in a couple of weeks. Tapping, who co-starred on that series last season, will return for several episodes."

So now everyone is in a tizzy over what "several episodes" means. Some fanboys are posting that several means 10-13 eps. Um, no. Several does not mean half the season or more. Several definitely means less than that, maybe even 3-5. You know like "Torri Higginson was in several Atlantis episodes in season four." Oh, the irony...

Also, there's a new interview with Torri out, transcribed by prion here: http://wraithfodder.livejournal.com/165589.html#cutid1. What a horrible position for an actor to be in! She wasn't happy with her character in earlier seasons, she went to TPTB to try and make things better, they waved her off telling her everything was fine and they loved her...and then they came to her before First Strike to say she could become recurring or leave. So she gets ignored and then removed all because TPTB aren't doing their damn job. Wow. TPTB have horrid management skills. Joe F. also apparently has tales of going to TPTB with ideas or suggestions only to be brushed off. Guess you either have to love what you're given or too damn bad.

She also makes a comment about how TPTB is an old boys club. Well, duh. No women writers for several seasons now, no women directors, no women producers. The women characters on Atlantis are trivialized and given fewer lines and screentime compared to the men. Offworld women (and Larrin) are dressed up sexy just to look pretty for Shep and/or McKay. A final cut of an ep makes light of date rape. SGA is no bastion for feminism or even gender equality, and I'm simply stunned whenever someone posts that it is.

No GW? Also: dreams about planes

January 30th, 2008 (03:16 pm)

GW go boom? And we're supposed to get some sort of announcement today, at least something that Joe M. says will increase the number of comments on his blog. Ack, that doesn't sound good

I have this weird recurring dream. I'm on a plane, sometimes with my bf, sometimes with my family, sometimes by myself. The plane is always in the act of taking off. Except it doesn't take off because a) there are people on the runway (wtf?) or b) we're using a freeway road (with traffic) as our runway instead of a normal one (WTF??!!). One time we even drove off a road to plunge down the side of a mountain, nose first, in order to get enough speed to take off. I almost always wake up before we actually take off.

Last time I had a dream that my plane had a very long takeoff on one of the Hawaiian island runways. I even commented to my parents (who were sitting next to me) about how I always dreamed about long takeoffs like this one...in the dream (fourth wall, wow). We finally took off, landed on another island runway...and then taxied down the car-filled freeway (the plane was huge too) to get to the next airport and pick up the people there waiting for their flight.

Man, that's weird. If I had to get all psychological, I'd say it has something to do with me wanting or waiting for my life to finally "take off" - family, career, etc. That, or I REALLY don't like takeoffs (worst part of the flight for me).
